DKB Muraszemenye Fishing Association

DKB Muraszemenye Fishing Association

The Muraszemenye Angling Association was established in 2006 through the joint efforts of local residents. The Association’s primary objective was to make the fishing lakes located in the area of Muraszemenye more attractive to anglers, which was achieved in close cooperation with the then water management operator. By 2012, the Association had grown to nearly 300 members.

In 2012, the management of the fishing waters changed ownership, which resulted in a significant decrease in membership to approximately 60–70 members. In 2016, Ferenc Soós took over as President of the Association, while Zoltán Stropka assumed the role of Secretary.

To promote the next generation of anglers and revive recreational fishing, we introduced new initiatives in cooperation with the Muraszemenye Primary School. Every year, we organize 8–10 fishing workshops for children, attended by 15–20 participants per session. At the end of the program, we organize a three-day children’s fishing camp, open to members of the Association and children participating in the workshops. Participation is completely free of charge, with all expenses covered through grants and sponsorships received by the Association.

During the camp, children have the opportunity to experience nature firsthand, learn about freshwater fish species, and acquire practical angling skills and techniques. Older children are offered the opportunity to camp overnight in tents by the lakeside. The main purpose of the camp is to help children develop a deeper appreciation of nature while introducing them to the sport of fishing. On average, 25–30 children participate in our three-day camp each year.

Our fishing camp offers much more than learning how to use a fishing rod. The children also become active participants in building their own campsite. They help set up the camp, take part in various outdoor tasks, and prepare meals together over an open fire. We believe that catching a fish with their own hands and sharing a meal they have prepared together creates an unforgettable camp experience, where work naturally becomes part of the fun.

At present, the Association maintains cooperation agreements with the Muraszemenye Primary School, Murfish Ltd., and the Municipality of Muraszemenye. The Association currently has approximately 130 members, including around 25 junior anglers.

Our future goals are to continue providing educational fishing workshops for children and to organize our annual fishing camp, ensuring that future generations develop a lifelong appreciation for nature, responsible angling, and community life.
