Mura Carp Lakes – A Premier Carp Fishing Destination in the Heart of Europe
The Mura Carp Lakes, also known as M1 and M2, are located at the meeting point of Hungary, Croatia and Slovenia. Nestled within the floodplain of the Mura River, between the Mura and the Kerka, the lakes lie beside the peaceful Hungarian village of Muraszemenye, just a 90-minute drive from Graz, Austria.
The two former gravel pits have been transformed into exceptional carp fishing waters. Lake M1 covers approximately 15 hectares, while Lake M2 extends over 45 hectares, together offering a unique and demanding angling experience in a stunning natural environment.
Scattered throughout the lakes are numerous small islands surrounded by water lilies and mature trees, providing perfect natural sanctuaries for carp. These features make both lakes technically challenging, rewarding, and highly enjoyable for anglers seeking an authentic fishing adventure.

Excellent Facilities
We offer a total of 30 well-maintained fishing swims, including both mainland and island locations:
- Lake M1: 9 fishing swims
- Lake M2: 21 fishing swims
Each swim provides ample space for anglers and their equipment. For all island swims, a sufficiently large boat is available to transport anglers and their gear safely and conveniently.
Modern toilet and shower facilities are also available on site (see the lake map for details).
Outstanding Predator Fishing
In addition to its impressive carp stock, the lakes are also home to a thriving population of predatory fish, offering excellent opportunities for anglers who enjoy targeting species other than carp.

- A local fishing permit is valid only when presented together with a valid Hungarian State Fishing Licence.
- Each permit allows fishing with up to two rods, provided both the national fishing regulations and the local fishing rules are observed.

Permitted Fishing Equipment and Methods
Fishing activities on the lakes are governed by the Hungarian Act CII of 2013 on Fisheries Management and Fish Protection and Ministerial Decree 133/2013 (XII.29.) of the Ministry of Rural Development concerning fisheries management and fish protection.
In addition, Murfishing Ltd. has established the following site-specific regulations:
1. Fishing Rods
Holders of a valid fishing permit who are 15 years of age or older may use a maximum of two fishing rods, each equipped with one single hook only.
Two-rod permits are available in different categories depending on whether the angler uses a boat.
Anglers holding a two-rod permit with boat access are not permitted to retain any fish.
Anglers under the age of 15 may fish with one rod fitted with a single hook.
Night fishing by anglers under 18 years of age is permitted only under the supervision of a responsible adult.
2. Hooks
The use of double or treble hooks is prohibited.
Exception: Treble hooks may be used only when fishing for catfish with live or dead bait using approved catfish methods (tube rigs, float rigs, buoy rigs) as an auxiliary hook for baiting.
3. Fish Retention
Fish species protected by minimum size or daily catch limits may not be removed from the lakes.
Exceptions: The following species may be retained:
- Perch
- Zingel (garda)
- Chub
- Ide
- Blue bream
- Nase
These species, together with all non-protected bream species, may be kept up to a maximum of 3 kg per person per day.
The following non-native species must not be removed from the lakes:
- Sturgeon species
- Grass carp
- Black carp
- Largemouth bass
- Rainbow trout
4. Boat Use
Boats—including bait boats—may only be used for fishing purposes by anglers holding a valid boat permit.
Exceptions: Rescue operations and maintenance work carried out by the lake owner.
Fishing from a boat is strictly prohibited.
Boats may only be used for:
- Accessing fishing swims
- Playing hooked fish
- Delivering rigs
- Placing bait
Anglers without a boat permit are not allowed to keep or use a boat on the lakes.
Without a boat permit, all tackle and bait must be introduced by casting from the bank.
5. Baiting
Baiting is permitted only while actively fishing and must be carried out using:
- Approved commercial bait products
- Boiled seeds and particles
6. Fish Care
Hooked fish must never be lifted into a boat.
Fish must be landed in a properly sized landing net, kept in the water whenever possible, and only brought ashore briefly for weighing and photographing.
During handling, fish must remain on a wet, padded unhooking mat or inside a wet weighing sling.
Minimum unhooking mat size: 90 × 120 × 8 cm
Fish that may not be retained must never be kept in keepnets or sacks.
7. Cleanliness
Fishing swims must be kept clean at all times.
All litter generated during your stay must be removed.
Waste containers provided by Murfishing Ltd. may only be used by anglers holding a valid fishing permit.
8. Environmental Protection
Damaging the environment is strictly prohibited.
Cutting, pruning or otherwise damaging trees and shrubs is forbidden.
9. Open Fires
Open fires are permitted only in portable fire bowls or barbecue equipment.
10. Rod Supervision
Fishing rods may only be left unattended within the effective range of an electronic bite alarm, up to a maximum distance of 50 metres.
11. Fishing Areas and Protected Zones
Anglers may fish only within the area extending halfway between their own fishing swim and the neighbouring swim, while ensuring they do not interfere with anglers on the opposite bank.
Protected conservation areas are clearly marked around the lakes.
- Yellow-marked areas may be entered but fishing is prohibited.
- Red-marked areas (the former Kerka riverbed) are protected spawning grounds for fish and nesting habitats for birds.
Entering, fishing, or disturbing wildlife within these red-marked conservation zones is strictly prohibited.
12. Night Fishing
During night fishing, every fishing swim must be clearly marked with an appropriate safety light.
13. Swimming
Swimming in the lakes is strictly prohibited.
14. Patrol Boat
The owner operates one motorboat throughout the year for inspections, emergency rescue operations and environmental protection duties.
15. Liability
Murfishing Ltd. accepts no responsibility for valuables left unattended.
